We are Europes first and only barefoot luxury skate retreat for women, trans, non binary skaters, and their allies. Holistic and integrative, our approach to skateboarding operates at the intersection of community, mindfulness, green exercise, eco therapy, knowledge sharing and nature connection.
Meet Danni – The Skate Retreat Founder
Danni started skateboarding aged 14, and in her 20’s was a professional female skateboarder. She has spent over 12 years teaching skateboarding and competing in contests across Europe.
As well as skating (when she now has time!), she runs The Skate Retreat and also Girl Skate UK – an online hub designed to connect, support and empower girl and marginalised gender skaters across the UK and beyond.
Danni is also a keen gardener and nature educator, and in 2017, Danni started designing and cultivating an edible food forest in a city centre allotment as a way of deepening her relationship and understanding of plants.
“The Skate Retreat was formed as a kind of sister project to Girl Skate UK. I wanted to create a space for adults to relax and skate, as I know sometimes older women can often feel a bit out of place in our scene. I initially thought I would get maybe 10 people book on and it would be a chilled couple of weeks coaching – I had no idea I would turn into my full time job. I had 30+ workshop bookings and ended up teaching over 70 new skateboarders over the summer. This year has been incredible and I can’t wait to start again in Spring.”
