Being at The Skate Retreat is an experience like no other.

Set in a private forest surrounded by 42 acres of lush mixed woodland in Norfolk, UK – your new neighbours will be herds of Red, Fallow, and Roe Deer and despite the gamekeeper’s best efforts quite a few Muntjac. There are also foxes, badgers, stoats, and weasels. Hunting Buzzards circle and scream overhead, and all the while the River Nar meanders past teeming with aquatic life, fish, water voles, frogs, mayflies, and if you’re lucky the flashing brilliance of an otter chasing a brown trout upstream…

What makes The Skate Retreat magical..

Our retreats offer guests the opportunity to reconnect with nature, and gain some useful, land based skills – our ‘Skate Wild Retreat’ includes showing you how to identify, harvest and use the plants and fungi we find on our foraging walk around the woodland. Our two bespoke mini ramps nestled amongst the ferns, under the leafy green canopy of birch trees create the absolute perfect environment for relaxing the mind with a spot of yoga, and learning some new tricks with your new skate buddies.

You’re sure to be well fed with our wholesome, hearty and seasonal menu, designed to keep you fuelled throughout the day. We are proud to create our meals from fresh organic produce, either homegrown in our own permaculture forest garden, or locally sourced from independent farmers and suppliers. There’s even a wood fired pizza oven (perfect for our pizza night – where you can hand make your own pizza!) For campers there are outdoor BBQ’s as well as drinking water/washing facilities.

The location also includes showers, an outdoor bath (with solar heated hot water!), plumbed in toilets and spaces indoors and out to relax and meet new friends. The Roundhouse is a great meeting point and has a wood burning fire and the comfiest sofa’s to lounge in – or you can toast marshmallows under the stars next to our firepit.

As for where you’ll bed down for a peaceful nights sleep… choose from spacious steel yurts, renovated log railways carriages, and even a boathouse! All with warm duvets, single/double beds and wood burning stoves to keep you cosy. For those that prefer – you can camp out under the stars in tents or campervans on selected retreats.

… and then of course, there’s the forest skatepark!

Every year we have a professional ramp company design and install a skatepark in the heart of the forest… we include a 2.5ft and 3ft mini ramp to learn transition on as well as flat ground to hone those street tricks. If the sun’s out we can also charge our spotlights for some after dinner skating amongst the trees. We host informal sessions with professional tuition from the experts – Learn from a 3 x UK mini ramp champ. We can give advice and inspiration on forming new lines, and film some tricks along the way!
