Our Top 3 Reasons To Start Skateboarding

Still haven’t bitten the bullet and got yourself a skateboard yet? 🤔

We know there are a lot of you here who have stumbled across us after seeing an article online, maybe you’ve had a friend visit a skateboard lesson, workshop or skate retreat, or perhaps you were a skater many moons ago and are dying to get back into it…

Whatever your reason is for not starting yet, there are a plethora more reasons why you SHOULD.
Here are our top three!

CONFIDENCE

There is NO greater feeling of personal power than landing a trick you’ve been battling with for what seems like forever. Skateboarding takes mental patience, physical stamina and a focused mindset. Overcoming fears and achieving small goals is a great way to boost self-esteem and build confidence – and when you get to a certain age, every little win gives that much needed reassurance your mind and body are still going strong!

SOCIAL

Juggling work, exercise and a social life as you get older can be exhausting. Skateboarding is an awesome way to tick a couple of those boxes in just one afternoon. Weekly or monthly sessions with friends is a great way to catch up and get some skate time in, and if none of your friends are free – skateparks are the PERFECT place to meet new people! Sharing the same hobby makes conversation flow much easier, and if you struggle with things to say, try asking what trick they’re trying… or if you’re struggling with something, see if they might have any tips for you – most will happy to help their fellow skaters!

PRACTICE ANYWHERE

The best thing about skating is that (weather permitting!) you can always find a place to practice. Empty carparks, a quiet backstreet, even your drive or patio if it’s level enough. There is no time limit or score keeping so you can take things at your own pace. There isn’t any need for team mates (though it is lovely to skate with others!🥰), and even a 10 minute whizz around the neighbourhood or static ollie practice on the carpet is enough to get the blood pumping and endorphins rushing.

There are LOADS more reason why skateboarding is rad and you should definitely take it up, have a read through our list below and let us know if you think there are any we have missed.
